Avanse "LumUltra"

TCE Overall Rating 98.7%

The answer is LumUltra - a Noopept based 'super pill' promising to help you develop a smarter, calmer, more focused mind after just 30 days use. But does it work?... Well your emails and reviews seemed to agree with our judging panel who were quick to fall in love with this new 'daily essential'.

Prevagen
Official Site: www.prevagen.com

Background Check

Prevagen is a little different from some of the other brain supplements we’ve reviewed here before: it’s based off just one interesting ingredient – jellyfish! It’s risen to popularity in the few years that it’s been around, garnering a substantial following online. Prevagen is being marketed as supplement to the elderly that’s supposed to protect your brain, while strengthening its neurons and fighting against age-related diseases (note – these are the claims of the manufacturer and in no way should they be taken as fact). There’s a high chance that an elder family member of yours is already taking Prevagen, so it might be a good idea to ask around to see what their personal experiences are.

In its basic form, Prevagen is a natural extract once taken from jellyfish called “Apoaequorin” that was believe to help fight aging. Checking out the website, there are lots of resources available for those of you who’d like to do a little bit more reading on what Prevagen does. We have to be honest that it seems pretty convincing, especially taking into consideration the double blind clinical studies they’re citing on their website, as well as some other supporting research.

When it all comes down to it, the website is very informative and the manufacturers try to do a good job at explaining everything you need to know (after all, we imagine it’s pretty difficult to try and sell someone on the idea that a jellyfish extract is going to do wonders for the brain). However, the video that automatically plays upon landing on the website pretty much sums up what you need to know about it.

Other resources included in the website are the supplement facts label and also what they call “Prevagen games” (mind puzzles).

“We have proteins in our brain that are responsible for keeping the cells alive that control learning
and memory, clear thinking and concentration. These proteins deplete with age. Prevagen is the only
all-natural option to replace these proteins. In scientific studies, Prevagen protects cells by up to 50%. Protect brain cells with Prevagen.”

Formula Highlights

Supplement Facts: 16/20
Apoaequorin 10 mg

We weren’t kidding when we said that the formula was based off the jellyfish extract, Apoaequorin. That’s basically the one and only ingredient in the formula.

Apoaequorin is a unique protein extracted from jellyfish that was first discovered by E. Newton Harvey in 1921 in an experiment concerning the bioluminescence of some types of jellyfish. Apoaequorin was originally identified in a rare species of jellyfish called Aequorea victoria. As a protein, Apoaequorin helps the brain and the nervous system do their jobs correctly.

Apparently, production of this protein in the body is high when we were younger, but the production slowly comes to a halt as we age. With the Apoaequorin in Prevagen, you should be able to properly balance the processes that occur inside your brain, allowing you to protect your brain from damage and continually keep it maintained, while allowing it to perform the complex tasks you undertake every day at an optimum level.

There isn’t really a lot we can say about Prevagen’s formula solely because of the fact that there’s just one ingredient, but the studies backing it up are quite convincing, and the clinical studies shown on their website are also a nice touch. Prevagen now synthesizes the Apoaequorin in their lab.

Effects and Benefits: 16/20

For a supplement that has only one ingredient, Prevagen works quite well! Our experience with Prevagen was like a roller coaster ride – it had its ups and downs, but it was ultimately unlike any other supplement we’ve tested before.

Prevagen didn’t produce any effects for focus or mood. There were no buzzes or highs at all. Instead, Prevagen gave us a sense of general wellbeing. We just felt a lot healthier while on Prevagen, and throughout the whole experience, we generally felt more positive.

Overall, our experience with Prevagen was a little weird, but at the same time quite unique… and definitely an unforgettable one.

Potential Side Effects: 17/20

Surprisingly, none of us experienced any side effects while taking Prevagen. Everyone mostly ended their days with a bang, being able to go home with a clear head, and waking up the next day fresh and ready to take on the obstacles of the day. We didn’t run into any complications whatsoever, and perhaps this is due to the fact that there really is only one ingredient in Prevagen. Of course, these were just our experiences, and if you should have a negative interaction, we advise that you stop taking Prevagen for a few days.

Please keep yourself well hydrated while on Prevagen, as dehydration can be caused by some supplements.

Pricing Options: 15/20

There are a number of different pricing options for Prevagen, beginning at the $59.95 for a 30-count bottle. With a serving size of one capsule a day, the bottle should last you the whole month. There are also 2-packs, 4-packs, and a year’s supply available with small discounts in place.

Prevagen is also offered in double strength (where Apoaequorin available at 20 mg), as well as in chewable tablets for those who have a hard time swallowing pills.

For the price, Prevagen is a little on the expensive side, especially considering that there really is just one ingredient in the formula, and that it isn’t that effective for either focus or mood. There are other nootropic options out there that are priced similarly but offer an overall better package.

Online Reviews: 16/20

There are a lot of reviews on Prevagen available on their website, but they do limit the negative reviews there. For a more rounded view, check out the reviews on Amazon!

User Review by Tom on Amazon.com

I bought this product for my father, 81 on the recommendation of a friend who is a doctor. After about a week Dad said he didn’t notice a difference. He called me last week to tell me he finished the crossword puzzle in newspaper for the first time in years. He was thrilled! He’s been able to come pretty close to finishing the crossword every day now for the past week or so.

My wife and I started taking it about two weeks ago. One odd thing I noticed is that I dream very vividly and actually remember a lot of what I dream. I didn’t think much of it and didn’t say anything to my wife because I knew she would think I was nuts. This morning she came downstairs and said “you wouldn’t believe my dream last night” and then proceeded to tell me in great detail (more than I wanted to know actually) about her dream.

I have taken ginkgo and other memory enhancing supplements that were all a waste of money. This one is pretty amazing.

User Review by Jason on Amazon.com

Having a degree in biochemistry, it’s my opinion that Prevagen does almost nothing more than the placebo effect. Disregarding the sketchy clinical trials cited, the active ingredient is a protein compound (apo-Aequorin) that gets broken down upon digestion into its component amino acids. While Aequorin certainly does bind calcium, even if it did survive digestion it is unlikely to pass the blood-brain barrier and is more likely to bind calcium in the body first. At best it is a dose of protein and, by the looks of the other ingredients, EDTA, which is known to chelate (i.e., bind) calcium and other metal ions like iron. This could probably pass the blood-brain barrier, however higher doses of EDTA (2 g/kg) are known to be toxic to lab rats and the quantity of EDTA in Prevagen is unreported. If the purported effects of Prevagen work as a placebo for you or your loved one, by all means, continue.

RECAP:

Positives

  • Unique formula and ingredient “Apoaequorin”
  • Website is rich in information and resources for further reading
  • Clear video on website that explains Prevagen in simplistic way

Negatives

  • Little to no effects on focus and mood
  • Poor value at $59.95 (better nootropics available at that price)
  • Studies on Apoaequorin are still quite limited today.

Our Verdict: 87.8%

Let’s get this out of the way: Prevagen is unique. We haven’t seen a formula like this before, especially when it comes to matters of the brain. It’s a bold move for a manufacturer to try to go into a different direction by using some newly discovered “super ingredient”, but fortunately, it works for Prevagen.

Apoaequorin is a promising extract from jellyfish, but unfortunately, there isn’t a lot of research out there about it.

Our tests went well, and were incredibly weird, but also remarkable. Prevagen seemed to have greater effects on our senior editors than our young reviewers. Prevagen is priced averagely when compared to other brain supplements, but we can’t fully recommend it simply because there are other premade nootropic formulas there that give a better all-around experience for the same price.

It might not be the best memory enhancer available out there, but it sure is one of the most interesting ones we’ve ever come across.

The Best Brain Supplements of 2020: Your Complete, Personalized Guide

In such a busy, harried world, people look for all the help they can get.

They’ve got problems remembering things, concentrating in school or focusing on a big work project, or being in the best energy and mood level for family and their personal goals.

Nootropics - also known as “smart pills” and brain enhancement supplements - are designed to help address these cognitive issues and improve memory and learning, focus and concentration, problem solving, and overall energy and vibrancy. These supplements are a potential fit for students (usually college students), professionals and business executives, and the elderly who want to enhance their brain power and performance.

Check the Best Smart Pills of 2020

The question, though, is…

Do you know the best brain-enhancing supplement for you?

Our product reviews will answer exactly this. By presenting accurate, up-to-date product information, conducting weeks-long product trial, and raising the alarm on fillers and low-quality ingredients, we’re about to guide you in your decision-making.

We take a long, hard look at the manufacturer, where they manufacture the pill, the website, pricing, customer testimonials, and different authoritative websites that point to how safe and effective a smart pill is.

At the end of it all, we present our Top 5 rated smart pills for your easy reference.

How Do Nootropics Work?

Known by many different names, nootropics act as brain enhancement aids and brain boosters that don’t leave your cognitive wellness to fate.

There are two kinds of nootropics: (1) pharmaceutical cognitive enhancers made up of chemicals believed to have a clear effect on the brain and nervous system, and (2) natural cognitive enhancers, which are mostly herbal or nutrient-based in their composition. Our reviews focus on the second group, which don’t require a prescription, not considered drugs, and thus are allowed to be sold the counter and online via vitamin retail shops like Amazon.

Are natural nootropics actually the savior they’re painted to be?

These plant-based extracts promise improved mental functioning, no less. Their surging popularity, particularly in recent years, can be attributed to their high overall safety value and few and minor side effects compared with their pharmaceutical counterparts.

If you’ve heard of the term “nootropic stack,” it means different herbal or nutrient-based nootropics “stacked” together to achieve your own cognitive targets.

Types of Natural Nootropics

  1. Neurotransmitter enhancers - These increase the activity of brain chemicals responsible for mental sharpness. Examples are dopamine, acetylcholine, and other neurotransmitters.
  2. Vasodilators - Boost blood flow to the brain via widening the blood vessels.
  3. Antioxidants - Preserve and protect brain cells from the damage caused by free radicals roaming in the body

A high-quality nootropic can change your brain wellness and make you limitless in many different ways. These include enhanced memory, increased attention to detail, outrageously good focus, increased alertness, better mental and visual acuity, improved learning and thinking, managed stress, better mood and energy, and a generally renewed sense of life and brain performance.

This is why this product review guide will help you in so many ways to know a nootropic inside and out. From the ABCs of the product formula to the overall verdict, you will have an informed choice of what to choose for your next nootropic bottle or product.

What Should You Look For In A Top-Rated Nootropic?

  1. Offers essential vitamins and nutrients - Your brain gobbles up an unbelievable amount of vitamins, minerals, amino acids, and nutrients for it to properly function for life’s everyday demands. The nootropic you deserve provides these crucial components and more. Ginkgo biloba, Bacopa monnieri, Panax ginseng, and more - the list is endless, but only a few good ones deserve your attention. Click here for the top-rated ingredient list for a smart pill.

  2. Backed by clinical data and experts - The best nootropics have a solid scientific basis through independent, third-party research data on their effectiveness and benefits.

There’s no reason for a credible health care expert not to endorse a well-created supplement for brain enhancement.

  3. Superior manufacturing standards - It’s not just about the ingredients, but also creating the product with the highest standards of production. The best supplements are manufactured in the United States, in a laboratory registered by the FDA. The manufacturer should be GMP certified as well!

  4. Independent reviews (Not just Amazon!) - Reviews can be bought and unverified, so keep an eye out for them. Our reviews, for instance, maintain their independence through a circle of product testers that really get to the bottom of things and assess individual product performance and quality.

What Should You Avoid In A Brain Enhancement Supplement?

  1. Improper dosage - Incorrect levels of each active ingredient - yikes! This leads you to believe that you’re getting optimum value and not the cheaper, over-hyped product that it actually is.

  2. Insufficient return policy and fraud - Reputablecompanies offer 100% money-back guarantee since they are confident enough that their product works. Read the fine print and don’t just trust what you see on the surface.

  3. “Free trial” offers - Does it seem too good to be true? Then it probably is. If you have to enter your credit card details to get to try a product for a month for free, then it’s not free.

Let’s combine your due diligence in research and our honest, in-your-face product reviews that won’t leave you guessing and wanting more information.
